学校で教わることは　なんだろう
読んだり書いたりできない　暮らしは
どんな暮らしなんだろう
人や自分　世界や地球の　しあわせや希望の話を
話してもらったことがない胸は
どんな気持ちになるんだろう
　
世界中の空はぜんぶつながっていて　　　
どの空にも順に朝が来る

自分がここで　　ひらりと起こした小さな風が
世界中に伝わりながら
大きな風になることもある

世界中の空の下のしあわせの形
自分自身のしあわせの形
きっと　ぜんぶ違うけれど
空にえがいて　つなげてならべて
それが太陽に照らされて

There is a big lake called Lake Malawi
A boy with shining eyes is catching and selling fish
For his family and for living
This boy has a dream:
Want to go to School

スーダン

砂漠が広がるスーダンで
水はとても貴重なもの
ラクダも　とても重要なもの
女と子どもは毎日でかける
水のあるところまで
ラクダを連れてく子どもは願う
「本を　読みたい」
Sudan
Desert spreads out in this country
Water is very valuable thing
Camels are very precious thing
Women and children bring camels
to water day after day
This child who leads these camels to water has a dream:

イラク

イラクでは大きな戦争が
土の中に地雷を残した
踏めば傷つき　命を落とす
病院には　満足な薬も治療器具もない
両腕を地雷で失った子ども
運良く生き残れたというのに
今日という日を生きのびるには
口で地雷を取り除き
町でそれを売るしかない
それでもこの子は夢をみる
「地雷ではなく　サッカーボールがほしい」
Iraq
War left numerous mines in the ground in Iraq
One step on a mine can send him to hell
In the hospital there is neither medicine nor medical equipment
A child who lost his arms by a mine could survive somehow
But he has to remove mines by his mouth in order to live
by selling these mines in town
Iraqi child has a desperate desire:
Want soccer balls nor mines

リベリア

リベリア　その名の意味は「自由な国」
けれど自由はみあたらない
弾丸の跡の壁の前に立つ子ども
その壁はなんと小学校
その小学校は恐ろしい戦場で
その子はなんと少年兵
その子の夢は
「武器でなく、ペンがほしい」
Liberia
The name Liberia means freedom
But there is no freedom in this country
A child is standing in front of a wall
riddled with bullet holes
This wall was once a part of a primary school
This primary school was once a battlefield
This child was once a soldier
But he has a dream:
Want pens not weapons

パキスタン

織物が有名なパキスタン
幼い頃から子どもは機織りさせられる
ミスをすれば　食事抜きや厳しいおしおき
怖くて声には出せないけれど
心の中で叫んでいる
「織物やりたいわけじゃない
本当は読み書き習いたい」
Pakistan
Pakistan is famous for weaving
They make children weave from a young age
If they make mistakes, they cannot eat
or receive severe punishment
Children can't speak out, though, they cry in their heart:
I don't want to weave, but learn how to read and write

インド

インドには１０億の人がいて
１００種類もの言語がある
たくさんの恵まれた子どもたちが
しっかり教育受けて世界で活躍してるけど
たくさんの恵まれない子どもたちが
洪水にあって　雨の中も砂利を運ばされている
本当は勉強したいのに
勉強すれば　立派な職につけるのに
India
India has over one billion people
Over one hundred languages
There are many blessed children
who receive education and participate actively in the world
On the other hand there are many poor children
who have to carry gravel in the rain because of the flood
They are eager to study
If they study, they can get the work they want

シエラレオネ

世界一短命の国シエラレオネ
３０数年の平均寿命
ダイヤモンドの選別がこの国の子どもの仕事
質も良いし　お金になる
けれどその稼ぎはみんな武器を買うのに使われる
子どもは兵隊にさせられる
悪魔の薬　麻薬の力で
闘いの恐怖を麻痺させられる
「戦争は正しい？」「麻薬は便利？」
それを信じてしまっている人たちに
何が本当に正しいのかを教えてくれる人がほしい
人の命が短いこの国の　子ども達の未来のために
どうか本当の先生が　先生がほしい
Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone has the shortest average life span in the world
Only a little more than 30 years is the average
Panning for diamonds is the work for children in this country
Diamonds' quality is high and they can be sold for a good price
Children are made to be soldiers
Guerrillas give them narcotic drugs
Narcotic drugs are devil's medicine
Children become addicted to them
"Is war right?!!Are drugs convenient?"
They need teachers who can teach children
What is right and what is wrong
Please give them teachers

カンボジア

カンボジアでは　かつて恐ろしい政治が行われ
知識を持つ人は　邪魔だといって皆殺しにあった
戦場の子どもたちは
ミサイルの扱いにも人殺しにもなれていた
遠くで爆弾の　煙と炎があがっていた
先生も　医者も　技術者も　お坊さんも
今は白い骨となり
石と見間違えように　ごろごろ転がっているばかり
誰がものを教えるのか
早く　急いで
この国の子どもたちが
真の教育を受けたがっている
Cambodia
Once there was a terrible leader in Cambodia
The leader wiped out intelligentsia because they got　in the way
Children were used to fire missiles and used to kill people
There used to be smog and fire everywhere
Professors, doctors, engineers, pastors
who became white bones
and seen here and there looking like rocks
Who can teach children in this country?

Children are eager to learn true education

ここも長い戦争と　驚怖政治があった国
「人間として生きたい」

荒廃した地で
魂の奥から願う子どもが売るものは
本当の人の骨
これで　今日の命をつなぐのだ
人の骨は　買われて　何に使われるのだろう

ペルー

南米ペルーでは「隣の村」は遥かに遠い
地平線まで続く道
自分の体よりも重く大きな荷物をかかえ
子どもたちは歩き続ける
お使いに行くのは当たり前
お使いに出るのは子どもの仕事
広い空の下　歩き続けの疲れたからだで
子どもたちはふと考える
「何のために生きるのか」と。
